Social Media Marketing: Do I Need A Website Or Blog?

There are numerous Web 2.0 and Social Media Marketing advantages … We were recently contacted by a new business owner in the Tampa Bay. She is extremely excited that we can already see her self-posted listings all over the Internet (directories, classifieds, links). So, we asked for her website address in order to assess some search engine optimization needs that she might have as well. Keep in mind that we often do both SEO and Social Media Marketing set ups at one time. Most companies find it more cost effective and convenient to have these resource “ready to go” for ongoing off-site SEO and future social media optimization goals.
There was a problem!
In fact, we encountered two problems: 1) there was a blank design on her business domain and 2) she was planning to design the business website on a limited … WEBSITE BUILDER.
This posed the question, “Do I really need a website for social media marketing?”.
Yes, you should have a website and / or blog prior to starting a social media marketing campaign. It is not a requirement, though in BEST practice in order to obtain the optimal results from your efforts. Some choose to use social profiles but the reality is that there is nothing like having your own … we do recommend that you have a professional website and blog that are self-hosted. In most cases, you can use a SEO friendly WordPress as both website and blog.
The point here is that your self-hosted blog or website provides far more advantage then limited luxuries on someone else’s network, community, website builder, etc. A website or blog is your “virtual real estate” that you can make SEO, social media and user friendly.
